This was my first live concert for 17 months and thus had an added frisson. The Dvorak is still a work in progress but we booked mainly for the Hindemith and are going to Liverpool in May to hear it again, with added Weber Turandot overture (one of the sources); I hope they do the paired MARCH as an encore! Interesting also to hear this DON JUAN and then a couple of months later to hear them do it in Liverpool under Andrew Manze (with possibly the greatest Sibelius 5 I have heard in concert). The acoustic helps make this fine orchestra’s concerts well worth a journey.
Britten Four Sea Interludes from Peter Grimes
Copland Clarinet Concerto
Brahms Variations on a Theme of Haydn
Weber Overture, Turandot
Hindemith Symphonic Metamorphosis of Themes by Weber
Domingo Hindoyan conductor
Julian Bliss clarinet
programme for May concert: excited also to hear the Brahms live, so rarely programmed these days
