The lighter side of Bruckner’s creativity is represented by his piano music – twenty pieces playing for sixty minutes – if with little to suggest that he is the composer. That said, if no more than a sideline to the Symphonies, there are attractions here, pleasant miniatures that mostly have dance as their base, as well as a fewer somewhat more ambitious undertakings, well-played and -recorded, although Mari Kodama can be a little heavy-handed. ‘Bruckner 200’ is the perfect time to release such an undertaking, and Bruckner enthusiasts needn’t hesitate, while the undecided can try the listening tracks on the link below.
