A friend, Peter C, died recently. Post-retirement he shared his time between England & Australia. In Melbourne today his widow Beth, with her family, is celebrating Peter’s long life. Music by Edward Elgar (English) & Percy Grainger (Australian-born) below. I hope Peter would have liked my choices.
Elgar: Serenade for Strings. Academy of St Martin in the Fields, led by Tomo Keller.
Grainger: Country Gardens. BBC Philharmonic/Richard Hickox. Chandos recording.
Grainger: Handel in the Strand. City of London Sinfonia/Richard Hickox, with Penelope Thwaites (piano). Chandos.

Very nice combo. Well chosen Colin. I met Peter a few times, and know that he would enjoy this selection. I think the Elgar Serenade is the best of the well known string serenades. So beautiful, powerful, passionate, and so very English!
What a brilliant idea. I worked with Peter at The Pru., although didn’t really cross paths that much. Got to know him better at the reunions. Have played the selections in thought and tribute.

What a delightful tribute.I have known Peter since we were swimming in the sea near Torquay in 1940-41 -probably longer than anyone still alive !
Lovely idea Colin, beautiful music, what a splendid way to remember Peter.
