A large part of today has been spent watching the snooker World Championship semifinals, especially the one between Judd Trump & Mark Williams, a compelling match that went the distance, Trump shading it. Music took a back seat, for once.

It was a great match, Colin. From 85 to 93 I used to go often for the first week at the Crucible; many of the players I followed are now dead! One year I saw a familiar face picking up a brochure for the Lindsay’s chamber music festival that tended to follow the snooker in the Crucible: I then recalled I had sat next to him at a Markevitch concert at the RFH: Beethoven 6 & the RITE. A small world….. One match i saw once was the only 16-red clearance ever made in professional snooker (foul & free ball needed with all reds on the table); a theoretical 155 maximum but Steve James made less than 147. It was the last match at the Crucible for Alec Higgins rip.
