Berlin/New York, April 29 2020  Sony Classical announced today the appointment of Dr. Alexander Buhr to the role of Senior Vice President, International A&R and Business Opportunities. In this newly created role, Buhr will run the company’s Berlin-based A&R operation and will oversee the international A&R strategy across Sony Classical. He will also develop new business opportunities along the company’s global business development strategy. Buhr will report to Sony Classical President, Per Hauber.

Buhr joins Sony Music from Universal Music, where he started his career at Deutsche Grammophon as International Marketing Manager and later as Executive Producer before moving to London to launch Mercury Classics in 2012. In 2016 he was appointed Managing Director of The DECCA Classical Label Group where he also founded Mercury KX in 2017. His signings include Olafur Arnalds, Sheku Kanneh-Mason, Milos, Tori Amos, Anoushka Shankar and many others. 

Buhr holds a PhD in Music from the University of Hamburg as well as an MBA (Steinbeiss SMI, Berlin / SDI Bocconi, Milan / Stern School, New York).
