Amidst numerous recent cancellations, Zubin Mehta, on the Friday, Saturday & Sunday just gone – November 7, 8 & 9 – was able to conduct one of his signature pieces, Bruckner’s Eighth Symphony, with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the third performance reviewed here by Mark Swed for the Los Angeles Times, published November 11 and linked to.

While noting the travel restrictions mentioned in Mr Swed’s review, hopefully Maestro Mehta will be able to appear outside of Los Angeles (where he lives), especially with his ninetieth birthday upcoming, on April 29, for events around that time, such as concerts with the Vienna Philharmonic (March 18-24: Bruch, Violin Concerto No.1, with Pinchas Zukerman, and Dvořák’s Seventh Symphony, changed from Elgar Violin Concerto and Beethoven Eight), and on the birthday itself, Beethoven Nine with the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.
