The New York Philharmonic’s Annual Free Memorial Day Concert, Monday, May 30, 2022 at 7:00 p.m at The Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine, will this year be dedicated to the people of Ukraine. In the spirit of uniting and sending aid, the NY Phil and The Cathedral are partnering with the International Rescue Committee (IRC). At the beginning of the concert, an IRC representative will provide information about how to contribute to response efforts in Ukraine and other crisis-affected countries.

The IRC, a non-profit, non-governmental relief organization that aids those affected by humanitarian crises, is working with partners in Ukraine to provide emergency assistance to displaced people — including providing basic necessities and psychological care — and to support evacuation efforts for women and children.

The Memorial Day Concert, conducted by Music Director Jaap van Zweden, opens with Walker’s Lyric for Strings, in response to the strife in Ukraine. The program also includes Debussy’s Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun and La Mer, and Wagner’s Prelude and Liebestod from Tristan und Isolde. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis on the day of the performance; ticket distribution will begin at 5:00 p.m.
