APPLE MUSIC CLASSICAL ANNOUNCE MAX RICHTER: HAMNET LIVE

EP OF WORLD PREMIERE ARRANGEMENTS OF THREE TRACKS FROM RICHTER’S SOUNDTRACK AVAILABLE EXCLUSIVELY ON APPLE MUSIC CLASSICAL

24 February 2026

Apple Music Classical, the world’s leading classical music app, today announced ‘Max Richter: Hamnet Live’ – three newly arranged tracks from Max Richter’s Hamnet soundtrack recorded live at London’s Southwark Cathedral. The EP will be available exclusively on Apple Music Classical for three months.

The three tracks, See things that others don’t, Of the sky and Of the undiscovered country were performed in front of a capacity audience by a 40-piece orchestra and choir, and recorded by Decca Records and Abbey Road Studios.

The concert at Southwark Cathedral was a celebration of the release of the Hamnet soundtrack and the film’s theatrical release worldwide following its November 2025 debut in the US, its Academy Award, Critics Choice, Golden Globe and BAFTA nominations and is the only live performance of the score.

The three tracks were newly arranged by Max Richter for a specially assembled orchestra conducted by Hugh Tieppo-Brunt, with Tenebrae choir and Richter on piano.

The Hamnet soundtrack has received not only multiple Award nominations but universal critical praise for its central role in the film. Discussing his work on the soundtrack, Richter explained: “In composing the score I used the basic elements of Elizabethan music—period instrumentation, grammar, and sensibility—but applied them in ways that emerge directly from the story’s psychology. I sketched ideas reflecting themes of familial love and loss, our place in the natural world and Agnes’ inner journey. Chloé [Zhao, the film’s director] incorporated some of these during filming and they also informed the edit.”

Anjali Malhotra, Global Director for Apple Music Classical, said:

“Max’s score for Hamnet has rightly been praised for its emotional power and integration into this Award-winning film that leaves everyone deeply moved. Apple Music Classical is delighted to make these new arrangements available. Music’s emotional power to connect people has always been central to Apple Music and our classical app provides all listeners with not only the world’s largest catalog but also a huge range of editorial features, partnerships and initiatives to bring the emotional power of music, that Max so uniquely encapsulates, to listeners worldwide.”

Southwark Cathedral was the ideal venue for the concert as it has a centuries-old special relationship with Shakespeare. Not only is it just 400 yards from the original Globe Theatre but it houses the Shakespeare Memorial and stained-glass window (which was lit specially for this event) and his brother’s ledger stone, situated in the Cathedral Choir, just behind where the orchestra were playing.
