Cymothoe sangaris (Blood-red glider)
I had one of these flying round my kitchen last night, demented! Went for my head and back; didn’t feel any bites.
Music: Elgar’s ‘Moths and Butterflies’ (Wand of Youth, Suite No.2).

Butterflies don’t bite, Colin! FYI I have spotted a magnificent Jersey Tiger moth in my garden, last week, and while walking down the road (me, not the moth) today. Jersey Tiger moths are pretty unusual in this country. I informed MothsinKent, at the suggestion of the Butterfly Conservation society. If the picture is of the butterfly you saw, you should tell the Butterfly people. They are having a butterfly count at present. I don’t recognise the butterfly. May be an immigrant….
Well, I can’t be certain that the photo is 100% exact to ‘my’ butterfly, but it was certainly singularly red and leapt out when I was studying some stills.
PS Butterflies live on nectar. This attack confirms that you are very sweet, Col.
Then the butterfly has good taste.
They say moths are attracted to light
It was probably drawn to your halo
Col.
We all know you are a saint in waiting
I’ve been badgering the synod for your canonisation for some time.
Apparently i need a second proposer.
I was thinking maybe Dr Yu ?
Dr Yu would do the trick.
You say it went – have you double-checked the butter ?
Butter safely behind tightly closed fridge door.
Ignoramus that I am, I don’t know of Dr Yu. I know of Dr Yueh (Dune). Only Dr Yu I can find is an obstetrician….Can you be canonised by an obstetrician? (It is RAINING here, and the rain has obviously gone to my head.) (Please, no-one suggest an umbrella.)
This Dr Yu is local to Peter and I, a lady.
Grammar, Col! ‘Local to Peter and ME’. You wouldn’t say ‘Local to I’ would you? (See ‘Eats Shoots and Leaves’ by Lynne Truss – no relation, I sincerely ‘truss’ to Liz Truss.)
Somehow I have a feeling that this conversation has got away from the original post…
I think you are right/correct Monica (about the way the conversation has gone, but all part of the Column’s breadth); maybe that butterfly did bite ME, although my I-self is perhaps too delirious to know for certain, but the local (to ME), Dr Yu, will have an antidote I am certain; formidable lady.
