Sir Adrian still had his fifth recording of The Planets to make, LPO for HMV. The first half of this Prom was conducted by the not-yet-knighted Colin Davis: Beethoven Leonore No.1 and Bartók Piano Concerto 3 (Stephen Kovacevich).

Sad news – Béla Dekany, former leader of the BBC Symphony Orchestra (appointed in 1969, sharing with Eli Goren, covering the Boulez, Rozhdestvensky and Pritchard years), has died at the age of 96.
