The concert’s first half was all-Liszt, including Pollini also playing some short late pieces and Jennifer Bate at the RAH organ for the Fantasia and Fugue on ‘Ad nos, ad salutarem undam’. Part two was the ‘New World’ Symphony, my introduction to the work; a few days later I had bought a recording, Ormandy and the LSO.
