“I thought it might be a nice idea to let you know how the concert worked! BBC Radio 3/Proms Listeners voted for the Overture in advance, and it was announced on stage today. The ‘Symphony’ was created by the audience, with three members picked at random for each movement, then the whole audience cheered for their preference. The encore was selected by Promenaders in the Arena – Iván threw a beach ball into the Arena, and whoever caught it had to pick a piece and similarly, the rest of the audience had to cheer for their favourite.” (Ellie, BBC Proms Office)

The man in the photograph is the BFO’s librarian ready to hand the parts to the orchestra members once a choice of piece had been made.
What a shambolic waste of time!
