Regretfully Marin Alsop has had to withdraw from next week’s concerts with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra in both Glasgow and Aberdeen. However, we are grateful to Ryan Wigglesworth, the orchestra’s Chief Conductor Designate, who has kindly agreed to step in at short notice. The programmes in both cities remains unchanged. This will be his first appearance in Aberdeen with the orchestra since the announcement of his appointment.

Ryan Wigglesworth was appointed the orchestra’s new Chief Conductor earlier this year and takes up the position from September. He replaces Thomas Dausgaard who will continue in the role until the autumn. Recently Wigglesworth conducted the orchestra in a live concert to celebrate the BBC’s centenary and will open the orchestra’s 2022/23 Season on 22 September.

Both of next week’s concerts feature Sir James MacMillan’s The Confession of Isobel Gowdie, originally premiered by the BBC SSO in 1990, and Dvořák’s Seventh Symphony. Flautist Adam Walker joins Wigglesworth and the orchestra in Glasgow where he will play Christopher Rouse’s Concerto and in Aberdeen for Mozart’s in G-major. Both concerts will be recorded by BBC Radio 3 with the Glasgow concert scheduled for broadcast on 28 April.
