Festspielhaus Baden-Baden
Unfortunately, the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden has had to cancel all public events for May due to the
current pandemic situation and the associated restrictions. The postponed Easter Festival with the
Berliner Philharmoniker’s residency from 6 to 9 May is also affected by the cancellation.
The performance of Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s opera Mazeppa planned for Baden-Baden under the baton
of chief conductor Kirill Petrenko will now be performed live in a concert performance from the
Philharmonie Berlin in the Digital Concert Hall on 14 May 2021 at 19:00.
Andrea Zietzschmann, general manager of the Berliner Philharmoniker: “We are very sad that the
Festival, which had been postponed until May, also cannot take place. Together with the team of the
Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, we did everything possible right up to the end, and had hoped to be able to
make it possible to perform in front of an audience. Fortunately, with a concert performance of Mazeppa,
we can at least present the planned opera with a great cast of singers in the Digital Concert Hall. With
regard to the Easter Festival in Baden-Baden, we are now very much looking forward to 2022.”
Kirill Petrenko, chief conductor of the Berliner Philharmoniker: “It is sad that our plans for Mazeppa in
Baden-Baden cannot be realised. To perform this rarely performed work together with the Berliner
Philharmoniker and with this cast was and is a great desire of mine. So I am glad that we at least have
the option of streaming a concert performance live from the Philharmonie in the Digital Concert Hall.”
