Exclusively for the audience of the Digital Concert Hall, Kirill Petrenko has selected concert recordings and documentaries from the video archive. But his selection is more than a simple playlist: it is a homage to the chief conductors of the Berliner Philharmoniker, from Wilhelm Furtwängler to Herbert von Karajan, Claudio Abbado and Sir Simon Rattle. In doing so, he pays tribute to his predecessors in recordings which are perhaps less well known to the general public today, but which show an even more multi-faceted image of the respective conductor. At the same time, Kirill Petrenko’s musical recommendations are a gesture of solidarity during this period without concerts. In our bonus video, the conductor explains his selection. Have fun listening and watching!

This looks really fascinating but I’m having trouble logging onto the BP site, matching up my email address with a password. Any advice?
Rob, I haven’t tried any of KP’s choices yet, but DCH is currently free to all, so it should be a simple matter of clicking on the respective links to each video. If not, I’ll check with the Berliners’ press people. Anyone else having a problem? Col
I am having the same problem as Rob, even though I confirmed my e-address, as requested. I’ll take up with BP/DCH!
Rob, the link works fine for me … http://www.colinscolumn.com/berliner-philharmoniker-digital-concert-hall-kirill-petrenko-recommends/
The whole BP archive is free for now, not requiring usual account or password access – currently catching up with Ivan Fischer’s Haydn 88 from 2009 – surely one of the most hypnotically balanced/re-focussed minuet trios on account!
Rob, and anyone else in Berlin difficulty, access to these films now seems to work, certainly for the Furtwangler. Maybe, once registered, or in my case re-registered (I was already signed-in to DCH) , it takes a few minutes for DCH to update. Colin
To Rob and anyone else who has had trouble accessing KP’s selections, I dropped a line to DCH, and whether because of that or not, it seems that all of the films are now free of charge and therefore available to everyone during these troubled times. Please let me know if this is not the case for you. Best, Colin
From DCH:
Dear Mr Anderson,
We are really sorry to hear about the issue you have reported. Our IT department has done some system updates. The problem should now be fixed.
Please let me know if the problem persists.
Best regards,
Enrique Bader
