Following on from the Elgar newsreel snippet, here are a few more British musical knights for possible Column insertion.

First, Sir Thomas Beecham with the closing pages of Tchaikovsky’s “Polish” Symphony such as you’ve never heard them before! … This newsreel snippet, filmed in the old Queen’s Hall, marked the creation of the LPO in 1932 …

Here is another newsreel clip from 1932, this time with (Sir) Adrian Boult conducting the BBCSO in “Land of Hope and Glory”at 100 miles an hour, also in the Queen’s Hall …

Here is the same Boult clip “colorized”! …

Here is Sir Henry Wood recording RVW’s “Serenade to Music” in Abbey Road in 1938 …

Here he is again in Percy Grainger’s “Shepherds Hey” from a fuzzy unidentified film c. 1937 …

This comes from the 1945 movie “Battle for Music” which featured several famous musicians in a story about the LPO during WW2. It’s Sir Malcolm Sargent conducting “La Calinda” for an audience of school kids …

Hope these are of interest!
