The Choicest Music of the Kingdom: London

A feast of Renaissance choral classics to celebrate William Cecil

Tuesday 7 June 2022, 7.30pm at St Margaret’s Westminster

This concert celebrates the 500th anniversary of the birth of William Cecil, Lord Burghley, the driving force behind Queen Elizabeth I’s reign for four decades. Appointed High Steward of Westminster in 1561 it is fitting that a celebration of music from his era should be held in St Margaret’s Church. We will perform a selection of sacred Tudor choral pieces, some of which will have been commissioned by Lord Burghley or his son themselves.

The programme includes works By Tallis, Byrd, Morley, Sheppard and Corynsh, including Byrd’s Misere mihi Domine and O Lord, make thy servant, Elizabeth.
