Presto Music, in collaboration with the classical record labels BIS, Chandos, Delphian, Naxos and Toccata, has launched an initiative to raise much-needed funds for the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Ukraine.
A curated selection of 12 recordings by key Ukrainian composers from the 18th to the 21st centuries is offered on CD/SACD and download: click here to browse through the selection of recordings by Ukrainian composers.
The labels are providing the discs free of charge, and also covering the royalties and copyrights, whilst Presto is handling the sales, logistics and shipping. This means that 100% of the sales revenues will go directly to humanitarian relief in Ukraine.
Presto is providing context to each recording, explaining why it was chosen and what is special about it, whilst the idea that the project allows Ukrainian composers to celebrate their homeland, even from beyond the grave, is one which makes the whole initiative extra noteworthy.
Chris O’Reilly, Chief Executive of Presto Music, says “The dual opportunity to explore this largely neglected repertoire whilst raising much-needed money for this cause is one which we’re sure classical music fans worldwide will embrace“.
Ralph Couzens, Managing Director of Chandos Records, adds “The chance for the classical recording industry to come together like this is our small way of doing what we can to raise funds for our friends in Ukraine“.
Presto Music has also launched a similar campaign over in the Sheet Music department: all of the profits from sales of the items listed at this link will be donated to support humanitarian causes in Ukraine.
The initiative is expected to raise in excess of £10,000 and all funds will be donated to the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal via the Red Cross – https://donate.redcross.org.uk/appeal/ukraine-crisis-appeal
