Composer Dmitri Smirnov dies, aged 71

Boosey & Hawkes and Sikorski are sad to announce the death of Soviet-British composer Dmitri Smirnov, at the age of 71 from the consequences of COVID-19. One of the leading Russian modernist composers who studied with Denisov and Herschkowitz, Smirnov was greatly influenced by the art, poetry and symbolism of William Blake. He emigrated to the UK with his wife Elena Firsova and family in 1991.
