40 pianists aged 16 to 29 from 14 countries were selected from 182 registered candidates to participate in the 2022 competition. At the end of the online recital, which took place from September 12 to 18, nine semi-finalists were chosen:

  • Jae Sung Bae (22 years old, Korea)
  • Sergey Belyavsky (28 years old, Russia)
  • Kevin Chen (17 years old, Canada)
  • Kaoruko Igarashi (27 years old, Japan)
  • Miyu Shindo (19 years old, Japan)
  • Zijian Wei (23 years old, China)
  • Yonggi Woo (27 years old, Korea)
  • Adria Ye (24 years old, United States)
  • Vsevolod Zavidov (16 years old, Russia)

The semi-final will take place in three parts: the candidates will play a solo recital on 27 and 28 October, and a chamber music concert on 29 and 30 October. They will also have to present a personal artistic project, to be carried out during the two years following the awarding of the prize. A new and considerable addition for the 2022 edition, this third stage will contribute to highlight the artistic personality of the young pianists. The finalists will perform at the Victoria Hall, Geneva with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, under the baton of Maržena Diakun.
