Marvellous piece of Zeitgeist, Beecham’s ‘telling it like it is’ manner a teasingly deceptive concealment of the hard work that would have gone in to achieving such distinction with his newly-formed LPO. Sir Adrian Boult, a mere tad earlier with his own, equally fresh-minted BBC SO just got on with the job…with results that were hardly less distinguished! By the way, since when was there a harp in Tchaikovsky’s Third Symphony? Lots of smoke and mirrors/fragments of archive ‘fill-ins’, in the making of this newsreel film, I suspect!
