Don’t let Lockdown 2.0 stop you singing carols!Early music ensemble The Telling always offers a special build up to Christmas.  Last year, their Secret Life of Carols CD won accolades and was near the top of the classical charts. This year, with no touring possible, The Telling is taking to Zoom to get the nation singing medieval and traditional carols from around Europe in 6 weekly workshops in the run-up to Christmas…

As concerts and choir rehearsals were cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions, music group The Telling has been responding to the crisis in their usual inventive style by bringing live singing workshops and concerts into homes since March, known as The Telling in Retreat. As winter draws near, the ensemble is thrilled to launch a brand-new 6-week cycle of workshops from 13th November to 18th December at the usual time of 11am – 11.30am every Friday to teach participants how to sing a mix of beautiful medieval and traditional carols from around Europe, touching on repertoire featured on their Secret Life of Carols CD which reached the top 25 in the  Classical charts and was cited by Classic FM’s David Mellor as his “absolute favourite” 2019 Christmas Album.

Hosted by The Telling’s singer Ariane Prüssner via video communication service ZoomThe Telling in Retreat launched at the start of lockdown and has garnered a loyal pool of participants who continue to attend the current workshop series 7 months later for a 30-minute escape from their abnormal lives. Participant feedback includes:

“Well done for providing something of beauty in these dark times”

“I love, love, loved that! Really good clear teaching – naturally! and the sound quality was superb! Many, many thanks.”

“This is one of the best ideas about what will really work to soothe the pains of separation.”

“Lovely singing session – very uplifting! And short enough not to interrupt my busy home-working day – excellent”

As the majority of choirs are still unable to meet and rehearse, many will miss out on attending and performing in beloved carol concerts this Christmas. The Telling hopes their 6-week course will somewhat fill the carol hole in their lives and help people get into the festive spirit as we lead up to a Christmas like no other.

Each session costs £5 or there’s the option to buy a ticket for the full 6 weeks at the discounted price of £25. Tickets are on sale now via Eventbrite:

Anyone with an internet connection can join the workshops and there’s no need for a webcam. All participants will be muted so they can feel free to sing to their heart’s content.
