| The Freiburg Baroque Consort consists of members of the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra and specializes in Renaissance and early Baroque music. Together with the exceptional Belgian ensemble Vox Luminis, it is dedicated to festive compositions of the 17th and early 18th centuries. Under the direction of Lionel Meunier, the program explores the rich and expressive sound world of historic wedding music. In the 17th century, marriages were less shaped by romantic notions than today, yet they held great social significance – and the music reflected this grandeur. Works by Heinrich Schütz, Johann Sebastian Bach, as well as members of the extensive Bach family –Johann Christoph, Johann Michael, Heinrich, and Johann Bernhard Bach – combine dance-like elegance with profound spiritual depth. |
