Georgian composer David Toradze to be honoured with a concert dedicated to his film and stage works at the Franco Zeffirelli Foundation, October 20th.
The great Georgian composer David Toradze (1922 – 1983) is to be honoured by an evening dedicated to his film and stage works presented by the Franco Zeffirelli Foundation. On October 20 in the Foundation’s Hall in Florence, conductor Nika Nikvashvili will conduct the Domenico Scarlatti Orchestra and a host of star soloists.
Hosted by Nino Nodia, the evening will feature performances by renowned Georgian artists including Giorgi Andghuladze, Katie Melua, Yano Alibegashvili, Nato Metonidze, Lela Mchedlidze, Levan Deisadze, Zaza Tsertsvadze and the Meko Kavtaradze’s Youth Chapel. David Toradze’s great grandson, Leonardo Lopez Dias, will also take part in the concert.
This concert is the first time a programme of Georgian music has been performed at the Franco Zeffirelli Foundation Hall and the choice of works by David Toradze is fitting as he is considered one of the great composers of the twentieth century. Toradze begun actively composing in the 1940s and his work was performed internationally. His film scores hold a distinguished place in the ‘Golden Fund’ of Georgian cinema.
The event is organized by the Toradze Foundation with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Georgia and the Embassy of Georgia in Italy. Special mention needs to be given to the invaluable role George Andguladze has played in making this concert happen.
The Toradze Foundation was founded to honour the memories and international artistic impact of the Toradze family. Among its many activities is the establishment of the annual Toradze International Festival held in Tbilisi.
Alongside the concert, the Zeffirelli Foundation will host an exhibition of Georgian national costumes and accessories, created especially for the event. Handmade using traditional techniques yet interpreted through a modern aesthetic, the collection highlights the symbolic meaning, history and diversity of Georgian national dress.
