Glyndebourne adds an extra performance of Semele to its Festival schedule this August
Glyndebourne is adding an extra performance date to its Festival 2023 schedule in response to high demand for tickets. The company’s new production of Handel’s Semele will have an added performance on Monday 21 August.
With remaining Festival performances currently 99% sold out, the extra date will allow the company to welcome over 1000 additional people to Glyndebourne this summer. Prices range from £15 to £215, with hundreds of heavily subsidised tickets available to young people through Glyndebourne’s Under 30s and Under 40s schemes. The free-to-join Under 30s programme has run for more than a decade. Sign up at glyndebourne.com/under30s
Tickets for the additional performance go on sale first to Glyndebourne Members and will be available to the public to book from 12.00pm on Thursday 27 July at glyndebourne.com.
Glyndebourne’s first-ever production of Semele is directed by Adele Thomas. In recent years, Glyndebourne has delivered a range of fresh, memorable productions of works by Handel, with previous successes including Theodora, Rodelinda, Giulio Cesare, Rinaldo and Saul.
Czech conductor and baroque music specialist Václav Luks leads the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. American soprano Joélle Harvey takes the virtuoso title role, alongside British mezzo-soprano Jennifer Johnston as Juno and British tenor Stuart Jackson as Jove.
Glyndebourne Festival 2023 runs from 19 May – 27 August 2023.
