Opera lovers around the world will get their chance to see Glyndebourne’s landmark production of Ethel Smyth’s The Wreckers from Monday 1 August when a live film recording is released on the new opera streaming platform, Glyndebourne Encore.
The critically acclaimed production, which recently concluded its run at the 2022 Glyndebourne Festival, is the first major, fully professional staging of the opera in our lifetime, attracting huge interest from across the opera world. It also offers the first opportunity to hear The Wreckers as its creators intended, with its original French libretto and a fully restored score. Curious opera fans who missed out on seeing it live at Glyndebourne this summer can experience this landmark event on Glyndebourne Encore instead.
Glyndebourne Encore is a new streaming platform giving on-demand access to highlights from Glyndebourne’s rich back catalogue of world-class opera, as well as all future filmed productions. Every month it delves deep into an individual opera, with revealing insights and exclusive interviews.
Glyndebourne Encore can be accessed via any web browser, Android / iOS mobile phones and tablets, Roku and Amazon Fire TV. An annual subscription costs £79.99 or £59.99 for Glyndebourne Members.
All four new productions at the 2022 Glyndebourne Festival are being filmed live this summer for future release on Glyndebourne Encore, with Alcina, La bohème and the Poulenc Double Bill arriving on the platform in the coming months.
