Parsifal (ein Bühnenweihfestspiel) at Bayreuth Festival 2016
Edward Johnson writes… For Good Friday, obviously the “Good Friday” Spell but Stokowski also did a ‘Symphonic Synthesis’ of “Parsifal” Act 3. It’s a purely orchestral piece which he recorded three times. However, for a 1942 broadcast with the NBC Symphony he brought a chorus in at the end and very effective it is. Andrew Rose did a very good transfer on a Pristine CD so I think it would be OK for the Column …
There are loads of “Good Friday” Spells on YouTube, ranging from Kempe at 12:38 minutes to Paray at 9:54! … However, I suspect you’ll prefer Celi, even at 14:04, so here he is, in excellent sound too …
… although it will be interesting to have two different tempos …
Anderson additions: the Prelude to Act I, twice…
