After a highly competitive process that drew interest from a range of candidates, Hannah Donat has been announced as Director of Artistic Planning, BBC Proms.

Hannah has been Artistic Producer of the Proms for the last seven years. Prior to this, she was Concerts Director of Britten Sinfonia, and previously worked for the Philharmonia Orchestra. In her new role, Hannah will work closely with Sam Jackson, Controller, Radio 3 and BBC Proms, to shape and deliver the annual Proms season, both in London and across the UK.

Hannah has been instrumental in her current role, bringing some of the best orchestras and ensembles to the BBC Proms over the past few years. She has creatively shaped and delivered innovative programmes and themed Proms, as well as working closely with the BBC’s own Orchestras and Choirs, who form the backbone of concerts throughout the season.

Sam Jackson, Controller, BBC Radio 3 and BBC Proms said:

“Hannah is a brilliant colleague and is highly respected across the industry. I’m thrilled she will be stepping up in this new role, working closely with me to deliver the very best classical music to the widest possible audience. We have an ambitious and exciting 2024 season ahead of us, and I look forward to working on future seasons with Hannah and the wider team. A huge thank you goes to David Pickard, whose invaluable work and dedication has driven the BBC Proms forward for nearly ten years, and who leaves us in October.”

Hannah officially begins in her new role on 1st May.

Recruitment will begin shortly for a new Artistic Producer.

The full programme for the BBC Proms 2025 will be announced Thursday 25 April.
