| Release Date: 2 May Max Bruch: Violin Concerto No. 1 Erkki-Sven Tüür: Violin Concerto No. 2 – world premiere recording Odense Symphony Orchestra / Gemma New“Hans Christian Aavik’s playing merges inexplicable poignancy with the energy of an arrow fired by the best archer. It always hits the mark.”Erkki-Sven Tüür“An extraordinarily accomplished violinist with a unique, musical personality and strong stage presence.”Paavo Järvi1st prize winner of the 2022 Carl Nielsen Violin International Competition, Hans Christian Aavik releases his debut album on Orchid Classics this Spring, bringing together two contrasting yet deeply expressive concertos: Max Bruch’s virtuosic Violin Concerto No. 1 and the world premiere recording of Erkki-Sven Tüür’s Violin Concerto No. 2, performed together with the Odense Symphony and conductor Gemma New.“Bruch’s Violin Concerto has been with me since childhood, its timeless simplicity and energy speaking directly to the heart, resonating with everyone who hears it” said Hans Christian Aavik. “Similarly, Tüür’s Violin Concerto No. 2 ‘Angel’s Share’ captivated me from the very first note. Despite being from a different time, Tüür’s music shares a remarkable emotional depth with Bruch — both works have this rare ability to connect immediately. Bruch’s romanticism is outward and radiant, while Tüür’s is more introspective, yet both are profoundly expressive. The beauty lies in how these two pieces, from different eras, still share so much in common — a powerful testament to the universal language of music and emotion.”The title of Erkki-SvenTüür’s 2017 concerto “Angel’s Share” refers to the whisky distilling process as liquid slowly evaporates and is released into the air, when – according to legend – the angels drink their share. “I like to think that people can also lose a a certain portion of what is not best in them, as their personalities mature” said Tüür about the thought process behind the composition. “Hopefully with the help of our guardian angels.” Hans Christian Aavik & Erkki-Sven Tüür© Koupo Kikkas Hans Christian has at least two guardian angels at home in Estonia who have supported him on his path to an international career.
