Alun Hoddinott (1929-2008)
Having reached 34C where I am, it seems appropriate to play Alun Hoddinott’s The Sun, The Great Luminary of the Universe (the title owing to James Joyce), using David Atherton’s LSO Decca recording.

Good choice, Colin – though I don’t think the James Webb telescope bears out Joyce’s cosmology (but it may feel as if it does today and tomorrow.
It is a good choice, though others may prefer the opening of Also Sprach.. Nielsen Helios or Grofe’s Grand Canyon Sunrise – perhaps we’ll have those tomorrow and Wednesday…..? But Alun’s opening tintinnabulous cascade is so much more ‘in your face’.
Perhaps we will…
