I have just finished listening to a recording, courtesy of Danish Radio, of a concert from last November (either on the 18th or the 19th) in which Herbert Blomstedt conducted Symphonies by Schubert (No.6) and Berwald (No.2, ‘Capricieuse’). Finely judged performances (save perhaps for the Finale of the Schubert, too fast, running rather than walking, and with the Berwald being a revelation, the first two movements especially), the nonagenarian conductor belying his age. If you missed the R3 broadcast I recommend a catch-up during the next thirty days.
