Holidays with the NY Phil

Handel’s Messiah, Sounds of the Season, and Elf in Concert
December 11–22, 2024

In December 2024 the New York Philharmonic presents Holidays with the NY Phil. This year’s concerts include the continuation of a longstanding Philharmonic tradition, featuring notable NY Phil debuts; a new matinee program performed by Members of the New York Philharmonic; and live-to-film orchestral performances of a popular holiday classic.

Each of the following concerts takes place at the Wu Tsai Theater, David Geffen Hall:

  • Ton Koopman conducts the NY Phil in Handel’s Messiah, Presented by Gary W. Parr, featuring soprano Maya Kherani, countertenor Maarten Engeltjes, tenor Kieran White, and bass-baritone Klaus Mertens — all four of whom are making their NY Phil debuts — plus the chorus Musica Sacra, directed by Kent Tritle; December 11–14. Performances of Handel’s Messiah have been an annual NY Phil tradition since December 2002.
  • Jeff Tyzik conducts Members of the New York Philharmonic in Sounds of the Season, new family-friendly matinee concerts featuring an eclectic program of works, many arranged by Tyzik himself. The concerts feature music from the classical canon including selections from Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker; popular hits including Berlin’s White Christmas; and festive songs from around the world including Auld Lang Syne, Mi ze hidlik, and Sizalelwe Indodana; December 14 and 15.
  • Justin Freer leads the Orchestra in the New York Premiere of John Debney’s score to Elf performed live to the complete film — part of the NY Phil’s The Art of the Score series; December 19–22. These concerts are family friendly.
