I asked Edward Johnson to investigate some pieces in 6/8 time…
Hi … Unsurprisingly, we start with Stokowski, a Bach “Siciliano” in 6/8 cond. J Serebrier. Happily the score pages are on the screen …
The scores are also on the screen in these other birthday surprises.
First, Smetana’s “Moldau” … well, the beginning is in 6/8 …
So is Brahms 1 …
And here’s the 1st movt of Dvorak 7 with Kertesz and the LSO …
Hope you find a few more for The Day!
Edward
I have, thanks Edward, here’s a ‘nothing’ tale bound in 6/8:
I am about to be lynched…
Send for the Cavalry…
Milwaukee SO/Edo de Waart.
I seek female company…
We take a trip by ship…
… and arrive in Scotland…
Pittsburgh SO/William Steinberg.
A safe arrival, let’s dance…
Ending the evening at a party hosted by Percy Grainger, with Lord Melbourne as guest of honour…
Haydn obliges…
Concertgebouw Orchestra/Nikolaus Harnoncourt.

Happy birthday Col!
Many happy returns, youngster! No flowers, as per your request (you can’t drink them anyway). Big work arrived for me today – 1st edits of John’s 2nd and 3rd symphonies, hence the brevity. Lots of love and good wishes,
Monica
Well done, dear Colin. You are a youngster compared to me… Besides, you don’t even look 6/8 of your alleged age. Many congratulations and here’s to your next 68! John
Every year you remain 17 days younger than me….many more years of music for us both I hope. I recommend Oramo’s Beethoven 4 on R3. It was a great concert on Friday; the Glanert was good also and he stayed for the symphony.
Thanks Peter, I shall listen tomorrow, Tuesday at 7.30, to the recording.
I did listen…
