I fancied the Finale of Dvořák’s Fourth Symphony (the real No.4; used to be the Eighth), so here it is – marvellous ending – with Rafael Kubelík & the Berliner Philharmoniker from their complete cycle.

Try Neumann’s first recording – fresh and spontaneous. To my ears Kubelik was a bit of a jobsworth in the early symphonies. The BPO plays well enough but without much conviction. Besides RK didn’t as far as I know programme any of the symphonies live prior to 6 – but do correct me if I’m wrong. Best. R

Rob, more than happy to post Neumann if findable on YT (I have on CD). I wouldn’t know about Kubelik live but I imagine what you write is correct. I listened to Pesek’s No.4* the other day, complete, from his Czech Phil*/Liverpool Phil cycle. Col
