I have distractions today, Tuesday May 23, that will keep me away from the Column; it could be said that I am not much here or even ‘all there’ – but you probably worked that out a long time ago.

    Ogden Nash wrote a poem appropriate for this occasion. It began:

    As I was going up the stair,
    I met a man who wasn’t there,
    He wasn’t there again today …………

    Maybe one of our contributors could think up a clever final line to suit Colin’s message
