    This mesmerising performance really got my week off to a great start – truly fabulous playing from the great Isaac Stern, with Previn and the LSO also on top form.

    Thank you, Colin, for yet again directing our attention towards a life-enhancing gem. You certainly know how to find them!

    Some years later from this recording I attended a post concert reception for the great Isaac Stern who had just played Bruch1.
    I asked him if we could look forward to the Sibelius. I mentioned I had both earlier recordings.
    “No” came his reply. “I leave that work to the younger folk”.
    I still have both LPs. In fact his collaboration with Ormandy was probably my first LP bought at school in 1963.
