Budapest
The MÁV Symphony Orchestra is the gift of the local railway company, so my train of thought was to seek out a webcast of this concert, keen to again hear the Dohnányi (first came across it many years ago through Milton Katims’s Seattle recording). However, the signals were consistently red regarding that destination. Then I remembered Leonard recorded the Suite in St Louis and Classical Source had reviewed it:

I mistook this as Leonard B in Budapest as it reminded me of his CD with Bartok which I must find and play again. Quite a rare issue .
Yes, Bernstein in Budapest (1983) with the Bavarian Radio SO is a rare Hungaroton CD, Bartók’s MSPC and Lenny’s own Divertimento. The whole concert, adding Schumann’s Second Symphony and a Brahms encore, is preserved here:

So good to see Slatkin including the Dohnanyi Suite Op 19 in his programme – time was (when I was a teenager) when this fine work was often performed and recorded – Sargent thought very highly of it and recorded it twice for EMI – once for Columbia and once for HMV with the RPO. It’s a tragedy that today, like so much other wonderful orchestral music, this is a completely unknown score and many thanks to LS for bringing it out.
