I love these pieces – D-minor, Opus 49 & C-minor, Opus 66 – masterworks of melody and varied passions, compact in design yet expansive in the flood of engaging ideas that both, throughout all eight movements, abound in, here given deeply appreciative accounts by three individual musicians who complement each other to often-sublime effect, such as the eloquent Andante of the D-minor example (also found on track nine in its original guise), sustained by emotional intensity, contrasted by an agile, light-textured Scherzo. There are perhaps even greater riches in the C-minor Trio, consummately realised by these musicians with vitality, freshness and collective relish; sensitivities abound, sparks fly.
