All 15 Shostakovich String Quartets performed by Jerusalem Quartet celebrates the 75th anniversary of the Cleveland Chamber Music Society
First time the cycle has ever been performed in Cleveland
April 21-30, 2025 at Cleveland Museum of Art
The quartets by Dmitri Shostakovich span nearly a half century of Soviet history, from Stalin to Khrushchev to Brezhnev. A performance of all 15 quartets together is rare. In fact, it’s never been done in the Midwest. Cleveland Chamber Music Society, in celebration of its 75th anniversary, presents the Jerusalem Quartet performing all of the Shostakovich string quartets over five evenings. The event is at the Cleveland Museum of Art April 21-30, 2025.
The Cleveland Chamber Music Society has been bringing top performers from around the world to intimate venues in Cleveland since 1949. It all started when a transplanted New Yorker at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and some of his colleagues persuaded the venerable Budapest Quartet to perform three concerts in Cleveland. The wildly enthusiastic audience response set the stage for the founding of the Cleveland Chamber Music Society the following year.
Over its 30+ year history, the Jerusalem Quartet has earned its reputation as one of the top quartets in the world, especially praised for its spectacular performances of Shostakovich’s string quartets.
