Rhapsody in Blue (1924) [36:20]
Bolet happened to play a recital at Casimir Hall at the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia on the day Eugene Ormandy passed away, March 12 1985. His first encore was a sublime Chopin F sharp minor Nocturne Op. 48 No. 2 (included in Marston Records’ Jorge Bolet Vol. 2 ‘Ambassador from the Golden Age’ 56003-2). He then said a few words and, after asking the audience to refrain from applauding at the conclusion, played Liszt’s Funérailles in Ormandy’s memory.
Bolet introduces his second encore in memory of Eugene Ormandy [52:22]
FRANZ LISZT (1811-1886)
Funérailles (Harmonies poétiques et religieuses) S.173/7 [53:38]
piano: Baldwin SD-10”
For Saratoga, please read Saratoga Springs, New York State.
