July 19, 1974, Royal Albert Hall – The First Night of the BBC Proms – Sir Adrian Boult conducts the BBCSO in Schubert’s ‘Great C-major’ Symphony.

This Schubert formed the second half of the 1974 opening Prom. It is not the one issued by BBC Legends, which is from the 1969 Proms, nor is it that found on an ICA release, a further BBCSO account (RFH, 1977), below. Boult’s studio version for EMI is with the London Philharmonic.

Boult shared this 1974 occasion with Pierre Boulez, who conducted Haydn’s Mass in B-flat, ‘Harmoniemesse’, which I would love to hear again but it seems to not be on YouTube.
