 (NEW YORK, NY; June 22, 2022)—Carnegie Hall today announced that it has added two concerts to its 2022–2023 season, with each performance celebrating the life of an iconic female vocalist, integral to the Hall’s history. On Monday, December 12 at 8:00 p.m., Carnegie Hall presents Get Happy: A Judy Garland Centennial Celebration featuring Broadway stars Jessica Vosk and Andy Karl. Created by John Kinsner and adapted for the concert stage by Thiago Tiberio with Music Director Mary-Mitchell Campbell, Get Happy celebrates the life and artistry of the legendary Judy Garland. Garland’s Carnegie Hall debut in 1961 has become one of the most storied evenings in the Hall’s history, with the live recording going on to win five Grammy Awards, making Garland the first solo woman to win the coveted Album of the Year. On the heels of her sold-out Carnegie Hall concert last season, Jessica Vosk brings Garland’s unforgettable songbook back to life at the Hall, accompanied by rare performance footageand interviews in this one-night-only celebration of an artist whose legacy continues to inspire fans around the world. On Thursday, February 23 at 8:00 p.m., powerhouse vocalist and Grammy Award winner Ledisi pays tribute to Nina Simone with a live performance of her album Ledisi Sings Nina. Nina Simone married art and activism during her legendary Carnegie Hall performances, resulting in a historic live album and definitive recording of her civil rights anthem, “Mississippi Goddam.” Taking on Simone’s emotionally searing, socially conscious songs, Ledisi celebrates one of the icons of twentieth-century music. Nina Simone performed at Carnegie Hall frequently in the 1960s with her final performance taking place in 2002. For more information on Simone’s history at the Hall, click here. Tickets to both Get Happy: A Judy Garland Centennial Celebration and Ledisi Sings Nina will be made available first on presale as part of Create Your Own subscription series to Carnegie Hall subscribers and members on Monday, June 27 and as part of Create Your Own subscription series to the general public on Thursday, June 30. AIZURI QUARTET Weill Recital Hall Thursday, October 13, 2022 at 7:30 PM UPDATED DATE: Aizuri Quartet performs string quartets by Bartók and Haydn plus Clara Schumann’s “Ich stand in dunkeln Träumen,” Op. 13, No. 1 (arr. Karen Ouzounian) and Tanya Tagaq’s Sivunittinni in an evening titled Sunrise to be presented on October 13 (instead of October 21 as originally announced). This concert is presented in partnership with Chamber Music America’s Cleveland Quartet Award.  _______________________________________________________________________ SÃO PAULO SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage Friday, October 14, 2022 at 8:00 PM Saturday, October 15, 2022 at 8:00 PM ARTIST UPDATE: Marin Alsop leads the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra in its Carnegie Hall debut on October 14 with a program including Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade and works by illustrious 20th-century Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos: his Preludio from Bachianas brasileiras No. 4; Harmonica Concerto, featuring Brazilian harmonica player José Staneck; and Chóros No. 10 with the São Paulo Symphony Choir. Soprano Camila Titinger no longer appears as part of the artist lineup for this performance. Maestra Alsop and the orchestra return the following evening for a multimedia event, “The Amazon Concert: Sights and Sounds of Brazil,” celebrating the Amazonian forest as a prime source of inspiration to Brazilian composers and to all of us. They are joined by soprano Camila Titinger and the São Paulo Symphony Choir in a program to include music by Villa-Lobos, Clarice Assad, Philip Glass, and others.  _______________________________________________________________________AMERICAN COMPOSERS ORCHESTRA Zankel Hall Thursday, October 20, 2022 at 7:30 PM ARTIST UPDATE: American Composers Orchestra ’s (ACO) first concert of the season is led by Mei-Ann Chen and features the world premiere of a new work by Yvette Janine Jackson (co-commissioned by Carnegie Hall) with the composer on electronics. Also on the program is the New York premiere of Mark Adamo’s Last Year featuring cellist Jeffrey Zeigler, Viet Cuong’s Re(new)al with Sandbox Percussion, and a new work by inti figgis-vizueta featuring the Attacca Quartet which includes violinists Amy Schroeder and Domenic Salerni, violist Nathan Schram, and cellist Andrew Yee.  _______________________________________________________________________ HELEN SUNG: QUARTET+ WITH HARLEM QUARTET Zankel Hall Friday, October 21, 2022 at 9:00 PM ARTIST UPDATE: Innovative jazz pianist and composer Helen Sung brings her extensive background in classical music to this special concert with her ensemble and the infinitely versatile, Grammy Award–winning Harlem Quartet as well as John Ellis (saxophone and flute), David Wong (bass), and Rudy Royston (drums).  _______________________________________________________________________ THE NEW YORK POPS Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage Friday, October 21, 2022 at 8:00 PM Friday, February 10, 2023 at 8:00 PM UPDATED DATES: The New York Pops and Music Director Steven Reineke will swap dates for two of their performances next season. They kick off their 40th anniversary season on October 21, paying homage to the legendary Star Wars collection with a comprehensive program (originally scheduled for February) that includes selections from all nine movies in the epic saga, as well as the anthology series. The previously announced Brahms’s Tragic Overture and Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 are no longer on the program.  _______________________________________________________________________ VIENNA PHILHARMONIC Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 8:00 PM PROGRAM UPDATE: The Vienna Philharmonic performs three concerts in March led by conductor Christian Thielemann. For the second concert on March 4, the program now includes Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture and “Scottish” Symphony on a program that also includes Brahms’s Symphony No. 2. The previously announced works by Weber, Beethoven, and Mendelssohn’s “Italian” Symphony are no longer on the program.  _______________________________________________________________________ THE ENGLISH CONCERT Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage Sunday, March 12, 2023 at 2:00 PM ARTIST UPDATE: As part of their multi-year Handel project at Carnegie Hall, Artistic Director Harry Bicket conducts The English Concert in Handel’s oratorio Solomon with Swedish mezzo-soprano Ann Hallenberg singing the title role, joined by sopranos Christina Gansch (Solomon’s Queen) and Elena Villalón (Queen of Sheba).
