Conductor Klaus Mäkelä to lead The Cleveland Orchestra and Choruses in Britten’s War Requiem

CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Orchestra announces Klaus Mäkelä will now conduct its April 23, 25, and 26 performances of Britten’s War Requiem at Severance Music Center.
The Orchestra extends its gratitude to Klaus Mäkelä for stepping in to lead The Cleveland Orchestra, The Cleveland Orchestra Chorus and Children’s Chorus, and vocalists Tamara Wilson, Andrew Staples, and Ludwig Mittelhammer.
Previously announced conductor Daniel Harding is indisposed for family reasons.
Written after two world wars, Britten’s War Requiem combines the traditional Latin Mass for the dead with powerful antiwar poems by British soldier and poet Wilfred Owen. It’s the first time The Cleveland Orchestra has performed the work since 2003.
