Dear Colin

Llŷr Williams has just completed an exciting project for the Festival de Mayo in Guadalajaro, Mexico.  The Festival was cancelled because of the Covid-19 virus but was determined to go ahead with an on-line version.  In order to do this the Festival director, Sergio Matos, filmed as many local performances in advance as he was able.  Llŷr was due to play a Beethoven Cycle and Sergio asked him if he would agree to film the whole series at his home in North Wales.   This presented quite a challenge in these times of isolation, but with enormous help from Signum, Llŷr ‘s record company, Steve Long and Mike Hatch were able to set up remote cameras and sound equipment in Llŷr’s living room and the recording began.

Llŷr recorded the entire cycle in two weeks and the Festival de Mayo transmitted each concert on their website at the time that the concert would normally have taken place, with an additional broadcast the following day to catch European audiences.  The cycle is now available for all to watch at their leisure and will be on the Festival’s website only until the end of June.  If you would like to dip in to one or two of the concerts I have attached the running order so you can choose your own Beethoven sonatas to watch.  One small recommendation: if you do listen, make sure you use good headphones as the excellent sound quality is CD level, not ‘internet video’ level, thanks to Mike Hatch’s wizardry.

The series begins with a nice introduction from Llŷr, in his garden.

I hope you will find some time to sample one or two of the concerts.

With all good wishes
