The music education charity’s weekly package of engaging events and
absorbing activities keeps young people creative and curious through lockdown
• London Music Masters’ new initiative, Friday Live!, is a brand new series of online live sessions
and downloadable activities delivered by inspirational musicians, artists and LMM teachers
• Designed to keep young people and their families motivated, entertained and positively challenged
every Friday during LMM’s summer term, this online series is open for everyone to enjoy
• Every Monday throughout Summer, London Music Masters will release an outline on their Friday
Live! homepage of what’s happening during that week, and who each activity is aimed towards.
From bewitching performances, to charming composition workshops, to challenging violin and
cello masterclasses, to workshops exploring music of all styles and cultural backgrounds, through
to sing-alongs for the very young, LMM have built a programme that provides for everyone
• Each week, three types of activities will be available:
o Explore! – There will be one musical activity open to everyone to explore in their own time
during the week, with submissions celebrated every Friday on LMM’s Facebook Live
o Participate! – There will be three live sessions taking place on LMM’s Facebook Live
every Friday (11am, 1pm, 3pm). These sessions will be delivered by different people and
targeted at specific audiences
o Listen! – There will be one weekly live performance from incredible artists taking place at
the end of every Friday on LMM’s Facebook Live
• Speaking of Friday Live!, LMM’s Executive Director Rob Adediran said: ‘Music is meant to be
shared and enjoyed and I believe it is an experience best had live! In the midst of the lockdown,
live music is still happening in people’s homes all over the country from singing in the shower to
string quartets with the neighbours. LMM’s weekly Friday Live series gives our nation’s young
people the tools and inspiration to get involved, to make music and to inspire their local community
(socially distanced of course!). It is a programme of activities and performances curated for our
times and for our communities with some of the finest artists and music leaders from around the
world. Anyone can join in and we can’t wait to see how the nation responds. Let’s all make music
live every Friday!’
• So far, Violinist Elena Urioste and pianist Tom Poser are lined up to perform in the series
• All of the live activities throughout the series will take place on LMM’s Facebook Live
• In support of the challenges freelance practitioners are facing at this time, all of the practitioners
working on Friday Live! are being offered payment for their contributions
• LMM teach 1,300 children in London every week, of whom 41% of their pupils are eligible for free school meals. LMM’s ambassadors include violinist Nicola Benedetti and cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason, who regularly give workshops to LMM’s young musicians to inspire them with their music-making
• 94% of parents surveyed in 2018 said their child had displayed increased concentration and an
enhanced ability to work in a team during their time with LMM
