Edward Gardner’s recording will be exclusively available on the app for 3 months and on general release from 3 February 2024

The London Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO) is delighted to announce its partnership with Apple Music Classical, the streaming app designed specifically for classical music. The first release is Berlioz’s The Damnation of Faust with Principal Conductor Edward Gardner, recorded live at the Royal Festival Hall during the LPO’s 2022/23 season. It will be available to stream exclusively on the app for 3 months from 3 November 2023 and then will be released on all other streaming platforms and on physical disc on 3 February 2024.

The performance and recording of The Damnation of Faust took place on 4 February 2023 and features an outstanding cast: Karen Cargill as Marguerite; John Irvin as Faust; Christopher Purves as Mephistopheles; and Jonathan Lemalu as Brander. Joining them is the London Philharmonic Choir, members of the London Symphony Chorus, and the London Youth Choirs.

As part of the partnership, all 120+ LPO Label recordings are now available on Apple Music Classical, along with over 5 million other tracks, making it the world’s largest classical music catalogue. Thousands of recordings – including selected LPO Label releases – are available in immersive Spatial Audio featuring Dolby Atmos. The LPO will be working with Apple Music Classical to bring listeners new, unique and exclusive content and recordings through the partnership.

The app is curated by classical music experts who are passionate about helping both beginner and seasoned music lovers discover great works. Apple have redesigned the search experience to reflect the specific needs of classical music listeners for whom searching by ‘Artist’ and ‘Title’ could bring up multiple movements, tracks and recordings. With these complexities in mind, users are able to search using a combination of keywords, from composer and work, to opus number, conductor, artist, instrument, or even a work’s nickname to find exactly what they are looking for. There are also ‘Editor’s Choice’ selections, and exclusive playlists, covering key composers, instruments and periods.

Apple Music Classical is included in an Apple Music subscription at no additional cost. If you’ve already joined Apple Music, simply download the Apple Music Classical app to start listening. New subscribers can sign up via the app on both Apple and Android.
