Welcome to the LSO’s 2021/22 Autumn Season at the Barbican and LSO St Luke’s.  Listed below are the concert programmes for the first month of the autumn period, there are some slight changes in the all British opening concert programme on 12 September. The LSO and LSC will present two movements of Julian Anderson’s new choral work – Exiles, the work is complete; however the LSC have not had sufficient time to learn this complex work due to the regulations that prohibited choirs from gathering to sing until recently. The LSO and LSC will revisit the piece in January 2022.

Simon Rattle will then conduct the UK premiere of Ondřej Adámek’s Where are you? with Magdalena Kožená as guest mezzo-soprano on Thursday 16 September at 7pm. Next on Sunday 19 September he explores Bruckner’s 4th Symphony.  He loves this symphony, and he’s aware, too, that Bruckner’s inspiration burned so brightly that he ended up with more ideas than he could actually use. ‘There is much wonderful music which remains almost entirely unplayed’ he says, and in the first half of this concert he explores some of the music that didn’t make the final cut. After the interval the orchestra will play the entire symphony.

The first October Rattle concert introduces violist Antoine Tamestit who is in residence over the following month, with Daniel Harding making a welcome return to conduct the LSO on Sunday 10 October.
