World renowned orchestra the Academy of St Martin in the Fields (ASMF) and Larry’s – Daisy Green Collections’s underground bar located in the vaults of the National Portrait Gallery – introduce a new cocktail, inspired and named after the orchestra’s founder Sir Neville Marriner.

In asking what the recipe for musical success might be, the answer has manifested itself in a Campari-based sparkling cocktail, finished with Plymouth Gin, English strawberries, sauvignon blanc and an irresistible orange and kalamansi foam.

Raising a glass to one of Britain’s finest musical talents, “The Neville Marriner” cocktail pays tribute to the conductor’s life and inspirations, with references to his love of Mozart, the violin and connections to the Royal Navy.

The Neville Marriner cocktail will be available to enjoy exclusively at Larry’s cocktail bar until 26 September 2025. The drink is launched in celebration of the orchestra’s final performance in the 2024/25 London season, which will see acclaimed violist Timothy Ridout perform with ASMF.

Also marking the occasion will be Sir Neville’s framed portrait, on display within the venue for one-night-only, on Thursday 26 June, alongside some of history’s most iconic arts figures including Audrey Hepburn, Amy Winehouse, David Bowie, Derek Jarman and many more.

Andrew Marriner, Clarinettist and Son of Sir Neville Marriner, says:

“My family and I are extremely proud and delighted to see Sir Neville Marriner honoured by Larry’s and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields in this way.

I’m sure my father visited the National Portrait Gallery many times, especially given that he spent so many years rehearsing and performing with the orchestra just across the road. While he wouldn’t have seen the vaults where Larry’s now stands, I imagine he’d be absolutely thrilled to be hanging on the same wall as icons – Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe and Dame Edna among them!

Those who knew him will remember how much he enjoyed a glass of champagne after concerts around the world. I’ve no doubt the ‘The Neville Marriner’ cocktail would have been equally appreciated — and I hope everyone enjoys raising a glass to Neville this summer.”

Cheers!
