   I send birthday wishes to David, a super friend and a very fine composer. Indeed there are few if any rivals to the deserved description of our greatest living symphonist.
   The Beeb is pushing the boat out for him this week with a live concert from Manchester including a work David very kindly dedicated to me. The premiere was at Bamberg.
