Many Happy Returns to Hélène Grimaud, 55 today.

Hélène with Paavo Järvi (see Beethoven below)

Frankfurt Radio SO; 2008.

From Brahms’s Opus 118:

Hélène Grimaud & Michael Gielen – Brahms’s Piano Concerto No.1 with SWR Symphony Orchestra of Baden-Baden & Freiburg. Undated.

The slow movement (from 24:00) of this performance has affected me deeply – great pianist, great conductor, great music.

A Liszt encore, ‘Les jeux d’eaux a la Villa d’Este’, from Années de pèlerinage, taken from Hélène’s Water album…

Seconded. She’s great in Brahms especially, such as above, including the great concerto performance with Gielen. Everything she does is from the heart.
